Michael Hodgson A fragile collection of eerie and ghostly meanderings, Jakob Rehlinger (Babel)'s `Janiform's gorgeous, lowly, lonely little piano shimmerings drone with confronting purpose. Each single echoing distorted note is gently maddening, deeply reflective or spiritually contemplative, and this is a delicate, precious gem of an album.

about

BABEL is the solo improvisational project of Toronto based multi – instrumentalist Jakob Rehlinger. Recorded in January 2015,
Janiform is an album of eight improvised experimental pieces
based around the piano.

1.JANIFORM
Resembling the god Janus, having two faces looking in opposite directions.

2. JANOAH
A town of Northern Palestine, within the boundaries of Naphtali.

3. JANICULUM
The Janiculum, a hill in western Rome, was a center for the cult of the god Janus, and the fact that it overlooked the city made it a good place for augurs to observe the auspices.

4. JANIZAR
A member of an elite military unit of the Turkish army organized in the 14th century and abolished in 1826 after it revolted against the Sultan.

5. JANUS
In ancient Roman religion and myth, Janus is the god of beginnings and transitions, and thereby of gates, doors, doorways, passages and endings. He is usually depicted as having two faces, since he looks to the future and to the past.

6. JANAKI
Sita (meaning "from the furrow") is the central female character of the Hindu epic Ramayana and is the consort of the Hindu God Sri Rama (avatar of Vishnu) and is an avatar of Lakshmi, Goddess of wealth and wife of Vishnu. She is esteemed as a paragon of spousal and feminine virtues for all Hindu women. Sita is known for her dedication, self-sacrifice, courage and purity. Sita is known by many epithets and is called Jānaki as the daughter of Janaka.

7. JANATA
Janata is a Hindi word for "the populace"; or "the people".

8. JANTU
Sanskrit: "of worms"

Srimad-Bhagavatam; Canto 3:
